Delivering Culturally Competent Care
Cultural competence is about personal choice, about preferences and about diversity. Beacon believes that a culturally competent system of care should:
- value diversity
- have the capacity for self assessment
- be conscious of the “dynamics” inherent when cultures interact
- institutionalize cultural knowledge
- develop adaptations to service delivery reflecting an understanding of diversity between and within cultures
Beacon Health Strategies’ Cultural Competency Team ensures that all services are provided to members in a fashion that promotes and supports choice by a person or family in need of services.
Beacon’s staff and provider network are comprised of a diverse group of individuals all of whom work to eliminate barriers to care and design systems of treatment that are based in individual strengths, self determination, empowerment, and recovery treatment principles.
